THE STORY BEHIND ”ON THE SCREW”
Before metalwoods changed the game, persimmon was the material of choice for wood heads.
Although persimmon was one of the hardest woods available, repeated impact could damage the face. To protect it, manufacturers fitted replaceable face inserts made from materials such as carbon, ABS, and fiber-based composites.
These inserts were secured to the face with three or four screws.
Skilled players learned that the firmest, most responsive part of the face was around those screws. Striking the ball perfectly in that area became known as hitting it “on the screws.”
Over time, wooden heads gave way to metal, but the expression remained—a golfer's way of describing a pure, perfectly centered strike.
That philosophy became the inspiration for Muziik's ON THE SCREW series.
